CD REVIEW: YOU OWE NOTHING by Kill It Kid

YOU OWE NOTHING by Kill It Kid
(Sire/Warner Bros)

Kill It Kid is something special. The band's latest release, 'You Owe Nothing' is the proof. Every now and then, just when you think music is dead, or at least on life support, a band comes along and gives you hope. This is one such band and this album gives me hope. This band embodies everything that rock'n'roll music stands for: loud guitars, thumping bass lines, kicking drums, and swagger! Kill It Kid is comprised of, Chris Turpin - Vocals and Guitar, Stephanie Jean - Vocals and Piano, Dom Kozubik - Bass and Marc Jones - Drums. The album opener "Black It Out" hits like a freight train, and is enough to at least plant the seed that this band may in fact be worthy of the hype. By the time the next two tracks, "High Class" and "Sick Case Of Loving You" roll  around you'll be a believer."Caroline", "Tired Of The Way You Want To Live" and "I'll Be The First" are all highlights, but the whole album rocks in a most vintage kind of way. Chris Turpin's vocals are soulful, raspy wail that sounds like Jay Buchanan from Rival Sons covering Paul Rodgers, and it's the perfect complement to his heavy, fuzzy and bluesy guitar tone. On "Blood Stop And Run" Stephanie Jean gets to put her powerful vocals on display. While the rhythm section of Kozubik and Jones is air tight and provides the band with a rock solid foundation. 'You Own Nothing' is the kind of album you'd expect to hear from a side project of seasoned veterans. It's a very strong, totally captivating slab of old school rock n' roll that is unlikely to disappoint fans of the classic rock sound. Fall in love with them and check out the band's back catalog too. Here's to Kill It Kid, Cheers! - Highly Recommended
